Key competence:
Mr. OBrien is an international trade practitioner, consultant and trainer with 20 years 'hands on' experience. He is expert in all aspects of International Trade, Trade Finance, Documentary Letters of Credit and International Payments and has extensive experience in Correspondent Banking, FX Settlement Procedures and Methodologies, Marketing, and the promotion of customer focus. He has extensive knowledge of International Trade in the emerging markets context, as well as in the western economies, gained through consultancy and training projects.
Mr. OBrien has excellent training skills, supported by his ability to explain complex issues in a straightforward and user-acceptable manner. He wrote the "Guide to the Finance of Overseas Trade" published by The Irish Export Board. He also provided the banking knowledge to upgrade the leading Documentary Credit computer-based training products 'Bankrole 1' and 'Bankrole 2'. He is an examiner in the Finance of International Trade with the Irish Exporters Association and lectures with them, as well as with the Marketing Institute of Ireland. He is an accomplished speaker and presenter, regularly requested to speak at high level financial conferences.
Mr O'Brien is the person leading the content development for DCPro, the multimedia and Internet based training and reference programme for Documentary Credits which is under development by the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris (ICC).
Mr O'Brien is a regular contributor to DCInsight, the technical journal of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). In a recent issue Mr O'Brien is providing the Expert Commentary discussing latest Documentary Credit developments in the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe
Mr O'Brien is registered with the Centre for Expertise on Documentary Credits with the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. He is contacted on a regular basis for an expert opinion on technical Documentary Credit issues
During September/October 1998 Mr O'Brien delivered 8 'tailored training' programmes in Advanced Documentary Credits to 6 banks in the Czech Republic.
A previous programme in Documentary Credits achieved exceptional reviews from participating banks.
